Animus Study

Engaged Study
October 18 - March 21
Facilitated by Alma

The figures we encounter in dreams and imagination can carry a powerful sense of familiarity, mystery, attraction, or resistance. In this six-month study, we’ll explore Jung’s understanding of the animus through an engaged, embodied inquiry into our own experience. Through dream work, active imagination, and sustained attention, we’ll cultivate and refine a conscious relationship with this inner figure—learning to recognize its presence, enter into dialogue, and attend to how we respond in feeling, bodily sensation, and action.

A conscious relationship with the animus can support the inner structure through which we clarify our convictions, make considered decisions, and give direction to our lives. As this relationship develops, we can examine inherited judgments, recognize where we place authority outside ourselves, and become more discerning about what deserves our trust and commitment. Its constructive potential extends into creative and spiritual life, helping us articulate what we discover inwardly and give it expression through words, choices, and sustained effort. We’ll explore how this work can strengthen our capacity to speak with clarity, establish boundaries, and act with greater fidelity to what we know and value.

We’ll meet monthly for six live, 90-minute sessions, bringing depth psychological study and myth into conversation with experiential practice and group reflection. Between gatherings, readings, dream journaling, and invitations to dialogue and creative expression will support the continuing relationship with your own animus imagery. Over time, we’ll return to these encounters, notice what changes, and explore how our discoveries take shape in the body, in our relationships, and in the choices of daily life. As this relationship deepens, we may find ourselves meeting uncertainty with greater steadiness, remaining connected to ourselves in relationship with others, and bringing renewed purpose and wholehearted commitment to the work and relationships that matter to us.
