The Free QuarterlyThe Free Quarterly is a seasonal creative cohort for artists, makers, writers, thinkers, and anyone drawn into a more intentional relationship with imagination.
Each quarter we gather over the course of a single lunar cycle to tend a single creative inquiry, planting it like a seed within our inner soil. We practice sustained attention, curiosity, and playful experimentation, creating the conditions for new forms of thought, perception, and expression to emerge.
Each lunar year the cohort gathers around a larger volume theme. In 2026, our inquiry is around Creative Utopias—an exploration of the qualities and conditions necessary for our individual and collective creative life to flourish. Each quarter of the lunar year, we move through a new chapter, each exploring an essential condition for the thriving of creativity within culture.
What participation looks likeThe Free Quarterly is a personal practice and a shared field of inquiry.
Each quarter, a single lunar cycle guides our movement through the inquiry. We set an intention and then work with a daily practice. The cohort space offers prompts and optional community exchange. The work over each four-week cycle is to cultivate a living relationship with your own creative process.
The daily practice is three-fold:

3 pages of free writing
Show up
Showing up requires us to tune into the intuitive guidance that emerges through our meditative and writing practice. The practice invites us to return each day to the creative seed we've chosen to tend. Rather than striving for mastery or a particular outcome, we practice attention. We become curious about what emerges when we meet ourselves consistently and allow imagination to unfold in its own time.
Participation is entirely self-directed. You are invited to engage quietly through their own private practice, or if you feel called, to share reflections, works-in-progress, and/or discoveries with the cohort. There is no expectation to keep pace with every prompt or engage with every offering. One guiding maxim of the cohort is: Take only what calls to you and leave the rest.
Chapter 3
October 10 - November 8, 2026Our third chapter turns toward the theme of Trust.
Trust is one of the essential conditions for a flourishing creative life. Every genuine act of creation asks us to step beyond what we already know, to remain present without certainty, and to move before we can fully see the path ahead.
This month we'll explore trust as a practice of relationship—with ourselves, with imagination, with uncertainty, and with the living intelligence that reveals itself only after we've begun.
Our collective inquiry asks:
What creates a secure inner foundation?
What allows us to loosen our grip on certainty?
What becomes possible when we trust the unfolding more than the outcome?
